sometimes i am walking down the street and
it is daylight savings time, still light outside but
dusky, sweet-smelling and cars are beeping far away
people are rushing past driving home to dinner
and i am barefoot, newly short-haired swinging my arms in
wide arcs at my sides thinking about my grandmothers
housecleaning jeans, old pierre cardins that i wear when
im doing housework, keeping tradition alive.
i think that when i was a little girl i listened to
babys got her bluejeans on and imagined
myself exactly this way.
