the top of your head and your heart are heavy; it doesn't make you a failure. you'd be sad to know that i called jo march my oldest friend when you have earned that title. to cheer you up, i said remember that christmas when i crashed on my skates and ruined dinner? you laughed and sniffed and said you'd lied about seeing the first star just so you had an excuse to come over. i didn't tell you i knew because i think you knew i knew, even then when we were ten and i was always feigning ignorance to spare your feelings. our feet have gotten bigger; we drive cars, but i'm still always pretending not to know what you're talking about.
