i like to think about the quiet rebellion of
housewives in the 1960s. churchgoing women who
gobbled up sons lima beans after dads sentenced
beatings to those who didnt clean their plates.
now they are almost seventy; they buy beer on a lark on
the way home from a parttime job, sit on the
veranda and drink it with a sandwich, get teary
at retellings of grandsons at camp being
called "gay faggot." mention,
you know, i never had a problem with gay people.
