how car rides lend themselves to self-disclosure
and honesty with no eye contact, how it feels
a little like you're talking to yourself when you
let slip secrets about your lover or
your past and you're drinking sodas and
practically invisible between mount vernon and
bellingham. divorces and parents and first sex,
then the towering lights appear and it feels gauche
to keep talking so you stop until the driveway
and keep the car running, thank each other and
feel better for the established context
that you're piecing together little by little.
