this morning i awoke at ten am to knocking on the front door.
i - of course - made no immediate effort to answer
it, but peeked out of tims window and spotted the tell-tale
lawnmower waiting at the curb. they knocked six or seven
more times, and turned to go. i didnt duck out of
sight in time, and im sure they saw a flash of brown hair dart
out of the window, so they decided to come back and knock some more.
and i mowed the lawn just last week. for crying out loud!

i ran across a lovely idea for brunch/shower/summer party beverages in a
mommy sort of magazine. truth be told, i read it on line at the market
so it feels a bit like thievery, but here anyway because its so sweet:

lemonade with fancy icecubes

3 cups water
zest of 3 lemons
1 cup sugar
2 cups fresh lemon juice
combine water and lemon zest and bring to a boil. remove
from heat and stir in sugar until dissolved. let stand for
15 minutes. add lemon juice and chill thoroughly. strain and serve over ice.

now! for the ice:
1 pound of raspberries, blueberries or blackberries
1 full sprig fresh mint - leaves intact
ice cube trays
take the leaves off the mint and drop a few into each
section of the ice cube trays. drop a berry into each section,
also. fill with water and freeze until solid.

love
astrid.
