the whole way up you know what i thought i
thought what if it has a clawfoot tub, what if
the doorknobs are glass and the wooden floors
show natural paths where ninety years of people
have worn the finish off what if little keyholes
are waiting for my eyes to peek through them
and for once, just this one time i let my imagination
go unchecked and i was rewarded with all that
and moss on the walkway.
